SeaDoo Spark Crankshaft Leaking

Updated: Feb 5, 2023

2014 saw the introduction of the Seadoo Spark I was personally there at the release event in the USA when working for a Seadoo dealership.

The ground breaking machine was lightweight, fun and most importantly affordable to newbie skier. It was a instant hit and it popularity shows with shear amount of Spark craft are still making the rounds.

Slipping into the past, the popular Spark is still in the Seadoo line up however some of the early issue are starting to become apparent, I am going to put down some information and common faults we have come across with crankshaft's in our Seadoo specialist workshops in the South of the UK. We sell parts, repair and carry out performance modifications on all Seadoo 4 stroke craft.

Crankshaft Shaft Surface Failure

At the rear of the engine there is a seal carrier with a ring of 6 Torx bolts within this set up there are 3 seals, 2 keep the water out of the hull and seal the intake tunnel area. The other larger seal keeps the oil in the engine. 2 circlips and a spacer keep these seals at the correct spaced distances. within the metal seal carrier there is a cut out to let leaking water or oil to become visible by emerging from it. This is where the seal failure issue becomes apparent with water filling the hull during operation. The seals fail due to the hardened Teflon coating on the output shaft pickling up and coming away thus damaging the seals.

2014-2016 Sparks have a crankshaft with a fixed end piece this means a complete replacement crankshaft is required along with a lower engine rebuild we buy these in bulk and can offer unbeatable prices.

2017-Present day have a removable end piece allowing to be changed with the body removed and the crankshaft locked with the Seadoo locking tool available https://www.jetseahub.com/product-page/529036407-crank-locking-tool
